Sometimes, it's not about the sick verses. Sometimes, you just need that boom boom bap, and DJ A to the L's Elevator Music mixtape series, more than does the job.

By DJ 1

For the Weekend Mix, we usually feature mixes intended to get you hype for the weekend; high energy, four to the floor, get you hype DJ set’s that serve their purpose well. However, not every weekend is a party weekend. Sometimes, you have to put on something less complex, and sit back and just chill.

A To The L brings us such an opportunity with his Elevator Music mixtape series. Don’t be scurred though, this isn’t that office building type elevator music, unless of course, it was Hova’s private elevator in a building owned by Rockafella. The instrumentals that flavor this mixtape are of a more funky and urban flavor, with tracks from the likes of Depakote, Chuck Tailor, DJ Cam, A Rebbi – yeah, prolly names you’ve never heard before, but, if you like that boom boom bap, you are going to have your neck bopping in no time. Believe that.

As for the DJ that brings us this wonderful concoction of dope beats, scratching, and Hip Hop soul - minus the verses, well, let’s just say DJ A To The L, is no lightweight. Originally, from Ireland, A To The L lives and breathes Hip Hop, in particular that of the old school variety. He is a Hip Hop scholar of sorts and has been at the helm of his own website, Altrap.com, since 1999; way before some of us were familiar with the world WILD web that existed outside of AOL!

These days, DJ A to the L lives in Tallahassee, Florida with his DJ wife Miss Kini Carter. You can catch him live at various local hot spots or on the radio. He spins every Saturday afternoon on Florida State University's WVFS 89.7 FM and every Sunday night on Blazin' 102.3's 'Diggin' In The Crates' show! In between, he stays busy working with domestic and international emcees and networking with other DJs as they polish their own mixing efforts. The man stays busy!

You might still be going out to a party or two this weekend, and you still need your very own Rocky theme music, but don’t front on this here mixtape. It’s a whole different type of hype, and a welcome one indeed.
