As we struggle with the fact that Summer is over, we can’t ignore the new season we’re entering, and I’m not talking about the Fall, I’m talking about the political one.
As I write this the Democratic Convention has just wrapped up and last week’s Republican one is still fresh in our minds. I’m not going to get all political, but I have been inspired by the focus on one particular subject, one that has inspired me to look to my side at my female friends and family with a certain level of appreciation I haven’t recognized in a while.
See, woman have it harder than men in many aspects; by virtue of their physical beings alone they have to deal with so much more than men will ever understand. And now, certain politicians want to determine what they can do with their own bodies. The way man has treated women throughout history, like second class citizens, is deplorable. And it's mind baffling that we are still dealing with these issues in the 21st century, yet we are! And let’s not pretend we’re different in the DJ scene. Female DJs face a lot of difficulties in their journey to get behind the DJ booth.
What can we do? Well, men can stop being pricks and just treat women like equals for starters. That won’t happen overnite though, but we can do a lil something right here in our lil corner of the Internet and we wanted to thank our sisters by dedicating this WeekendMix to them.
Following are three mixes by three ladies we admire, three ladies that come correct and bring the groove, three Queens that get us dancing and praising their skills behind the decks. Simple but sincere, we salute our sisters and while we’re at it, thank them, cuz without them, well, we wouldn’t be dancing period!
